New 240 MW thermal power plant commissioned in Tashkent region

A new 240 MW thermal power plant built by the Turkish company Aksa Enerji has started supplying electricity in Tashkent region.

On 14 January at 11:15, a new 240 MW thermal power plant built by the Turkish company Aksa Enerji in Kibray district of Tashkent region began supplying power to Uzbekistan's unified power grid, the press service of the Ministry of Energy reported.

The plant is designed to generate 2 billion kWh of electricity per year.

Thanks to the efficiency of its modern combined-cycle equipment, the plant saves 290 million cubic meters of natural gas per year, the statement said. The gas saved will make it possible to generate an additional 1 billion kWh of electricity.

The USD 150 million project is fully financed by the Turkish company Aksa Enerji.

This is the second power plant commissioned by Aksa Enerji in Uzbekistan. The first, a 270 MW thermal power plant, was commissioned in Bukhara region on 11 January.
